Micro Summary
A clever approach to keeping disabled parking bays empty.

Being interested in web accessibility has given me a new awareness of the difficulties disabled people face in trying to navigate daily life. I was very pleased to see this sign in one of my local shopping centre’s disabled parking bays.

I hope this approach to keeping disabled parking bays empty for those who really need them catches on!
I think it’s a fantastic idea and hope it will catch on! Needless to say, I’ve never seen anyone “illegally parked” in one of these bays.

Speaking of illegal parking..people in Taichung take over disabled parking spots all the time. That irritates me. Only strong law enforcement can stop this from happening, I am ashamed to say.

Thank you for the comment you left me. The input comment being white was an accident, I originaly had a very light scheme, with the imput boxes dark and a white / light font in them.
I must of overlooked the colour, and will change it later on. Thank you for bringing it to my attention!
Additionally, I would like to thank you re: your comments on my site, and I’ll increase the size of the font a little. I tryed increasing it in my own browser the other day to test and found you can increase it considerably without ‘breaking’ the layout, so that’s also good to know. But yes, I’ll increase it a little.

Hello, I know it is another off topic post, (I have read it though, and think that it’s a great scheme to keep people from parking in D-bays who are just too lazy to walk or wait for a spot.)
I just wanted to let you know that I’ve changed my input colour, slightly increased my font size and line height. Do you think it has helped? I do. Do you have any futher improvement suggestions for me?

I think you might find this approach helpful in Taichung, MW. The kind of people who do take the disabled parking bays would probably seriously dislike having to donate money to the disabled, making the approach above a good deterrent. It would be necessary to have a HEFTY fine though, as the wealthier transgressors might be willing to pay the fine for the convenience of the parking bay.

Interesting that I find this post just after I’ve posted on the same subject at Hyde Daily Photo.
The only problem I have with clamping as a deterrent though is that it just denies the parking spot to legitimate users for longer so is possibly self-defeating.
