Micro Summary
Sometimes all the things requiring your attention on Facebook are just too much!

Facebook, for those who are unaware, is the social networking phenomenon that is sweeping the globe like a virus, and has become extremely popular here in South Africa. It’s probably the best on-line tool for keeping in touch with people that I know of, and boasts an ever increasing set of features. However, in my opinion, it has recently started to get out of control. It has become impossible for a normal busy person to keep up with all the requests and notifications that it sends to you. Take a look at the preceding image to see what happens if you don’t log into Facebook for a week or so.
If you’re a Facebook user, how do you manage Facebook along with your normal work and email demands?
Do you simply ignore all the stuff that it throws at you, or do you diligently respond to all the requests for your time?

Facebook is a ” 3-minutes hot” networking for me. I was addicted to it few months ago. However, I found it isn’t a real “social” networking. People who don’t know you or not in your network groups are excluded. This is good because strangers aren’t able to peep into your life, but it shouldn’t be called social networking in my opinion.
The point is… your question is how to manage those requests. Hmmm…just check it once in a while and “poke back.” I am sure you will find out some time to poke back, Mr. popular. :p

I’m getting a bit sick of all those (social) networking nonsense sites, I mean… how can people still have a real life?
Networking just for the sake of networking, I don’t believe in it.

I agree Dieter.
I think it’s a symptom of the Internet Bubble 2.0! Remember back in 1998 when everyone and their dog had an e-commerce system? Well, a little while later people (and specifically those funding all the start-ups) realised that most of those systems were selling stuff nobody wanted, and the bubble burst. I think there’s a similar thing going on now. Right now, everyone is trying to get a piece of the social networking pie, but in my opinion, there are already too many sites doing exactly the same thing. I reckon the smaller, not so popular ones will die out, and the big useful ones will remain.
